Tsum Valley Trek is an 18-day trek in the Manaslu Region to explore the hidden Tsum Valley. This trek gets us close to the local multi-ethnic groups here in and around the Manaslu Region.

“Tsum Valley Trek – Explore Nepal through hidden valleys”

The Tsum Valley Trek starts with a long drive along the Prithvi Highway to Arughat and then till Soti Khola. The road conditions after Dhading Bensi might get a little rough. The trek starts the next day as we hike along the Budi Gandaki River before descending through a Sal forest to make it to the village of Khursane. An uphill hike from Khursane takes us to Lapurbesi and subsequently, to Machha Khola. Keep on the track along the Budi Gandaki River to get past Tatopani and Dobhan. The hike will eventually lead us to Jagat. This marks our entry at the Manaslu Conservation Area, which is home to over 33 species of mammals and over 110 species of birds. Get on the rocky trails to make it to Salleri. Descend to Sirdibas and hike uphill again to Philim. From Philim, it’s an easy hike downhill to Chisapani.

We’ll reach Chumling the next day after crossing Kungwa and Siyar Khola. Similarly, we’ll make it to Chokhangparo after passing over the Serpu Khola. On the 10th day of our trek, we’ll arrive at the village of the Nile. But, before getting there, we’ll come across the Rachen Nunnery, established in 1936 by Drupa Rinpoche. An easy uphill hike from the Nile will see us at Mu Gompa. Explore the Mu Gompa and the Dephu Doma Gompa. Also, learn more about the local culture and tradition of the village. We’ll trek to the Burgi village next. En-route, we’ll explore the Milarepa Cave or Pigeon Cave. This cave was used as a resting place by the Tibetan saint, Milarepa. He is considered one of Tibet’s most famous yogis and spiritual poets. Hike back to Philim through Chumling before trekking back to Soti Khola. Get to Arughat through local markets and end the trip after a long drive to Kathmandu.

Wake up to the hustle and bustle of the capital city. Today, we’ll explore Swoyambhunath, Pashupatinath, Bouddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square, all of which are UNESCO listed world heritage sites. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Drive along the Prithvi Highway in a six-hour-long trip to make it to Arughat. En route, we’ll pass through the town of Dhading Bensi. Road conditions after Dhading Bensi might get a little rough. If the time persists, we’ll drive to Soti Khola.

Follow the Budi Gandaki river and descend through a forest of Sal to arrive at the village of Khursani Bari or Khursane. This village is called Khursane since it produces the highest number of red chillies (Khursani) in the region.

Get out of the village of Khursane and hike uphill along the lush forest to arrive at the village of Lapurbesi. Keep on the hike and we’ll get to Machha Khola. We can get directly to Machha Khola by jeep if you want a shorter trip.

Hike along the Budi Gandaki River through the forest to get past the village of Tatopani. From here, an easy trail uphill takes us to Dobhan and then to Jagat. Our arrival at Jagat marks our entry at the Manaslu Conservation Area.

Hike along the rocky trails to make it to the village of Salleri before descending towards Sirdibas. Keep on hiking uphill and we’ll reach Ghatta Khola. Cross the suspension bridge before ascending towards Philim. From Philim, it’s an easy downhill trek to Chisapani.

Get out of the village of Chisapani to make it to Ekle Bhatti. Descend and cross the Budi Gandaki River. A climb uphill from here will take us to the village of Lookpa and then to Gumlung. Pass the Kungwa and Siyar Khola to get to Chumling.

Hike along the narrow hills to make it to Rainjam village. An uphill climb and across the Serpu Khola will see us at Gho. After a couple of hours of hiking, we’ll be at Chokhangparo. This village offers some of the best views of Himal Chuli, Sriringi, and Ganesh peaks.

Out of the village of Chokhangparo will see us at Lamagaon. An easy trek will take us towards the Rachen Gompa, a Nunnery Gompa. Continue hiking uphill to get past the villages of Lar and Phurbe, and eventually reach Nile.

While leaving Mu Gompa, we’ll head to the village of Chhule. From here, we’ll follow the trails to Burgi village. Today, we’ll explore the Piren Chu AKA Pigeon Cave. This cave, which is also called Milarepa Cave was used as a resting place by the Tibetan saint, Milarepa. During our trip today, we’ll be able to enjoy the views of Ganesh, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Pika, and other peaks.

Get past the villages of Chokhangparo and Gho to make it to Rainjam. From here, we’ll drop downhill and cross the Budhi Gandaki to arrive at Chumling.

Hike downhill to the village of Sirdibas and continue on the descent to make it to Jagat and Yaruphat. From Yaruphat, we’ll first trek towards Tatopani and then to Khorlabesi.

Get out of the village of Khorlabesi and cross the Tharo Khola. Keep on hiking downhill before continuing towards Machha Khola. Trek along the Budhi Gandai River to arrive at Lapurbesi. From here, it’s an easy hike till Khursane and then to Soti Khola.

An uphill climb from Soti Khola will see us at Kyorpani. Keep on hiking to make it to Arkhet and to Sante Bazaar. We’ll arrive at Arughat after we pass through a hydropower plant. After lunch here, we’ll drive back to the capital city. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Meals and Accommodation

Yolo Hike always cares about the heath, meals, and accommodation of the travelers willing to explore besides their habitant. You can either stay overnight in a tea house or a lodge, depending on availability. With a shared room and a common washroom, either choice provides basic services. In some communities, you may be able to receive services such as a hot shower and charging stations, although you may have to pay a little fee. Similarly, you spend the night in the best available tourist-grade hotel in cities.

During the journey, you will be fed three times a day. Although the meals are not as savory as in big cities, you do have a number of selections to choose from. All of the meals are delectable, healthy, and hygienic. There is a mix of Nepali, Tibetan, and Western cuisine on display. For snacks, many types of teas, coffee, and soups are also offered. Because the area is so remote, we recommend not to drink alcoholic products and bring plenty of snacks and bars to eat along the trip.
